For 2018, “Ultra Violet,” “Cherry Tomato Red,” “Meadowlark Yellow” and “Arcadia Green” are among the many bright and beautiful hues appearing on the Pantone Color Trends Forecast. This is a list full of pop for fashion to accessories and art to tableware, but in the world of outdoor living, the classics are seen as continuing to rule.

Who doesn’t brighten up at the sight of a deep violet flowering bush adjacent to a patio or terrace? But, as a choice for dressing a patio lounge set, the vibrant hues are the choice of a fashionable few.  Brights continue to be the go-to palette for accessorizing outdoor spaces from pillows and rugs to urns and umbrellas.  When determining enticing outdoor fabric and finishing selections, the trends Pantone is seeing for 2018 in the Classic Color Palette speak more in an outdoor voice.

For its forecasted Classic color story, Pantone points to what can be described as comfort neutrals.  Each is meant for defining relaxation throughout outdoor rooms this season and can be found within newly introduced fabrics and finishes.

Pantone first points to “Sailor Blue” as a hue the color experts are seeing for 2018 in their Classics.  Deep and distinguished, “Sailor Blue, is a rich navy blue that allows for plenty of popping from brighter additions in accessories and creates alfresco harmony across outdoor rooms.  In relation to the popular white or grey, wicker or wood finishes, that are being seen within casual furnishings, this blue complements and embraces with ease.  As seen in the Barclay Butera Outdoor Collection for Castelle, the Sailor Blue trend in association with a white finish offers a combination that creates a “ship shape” outdoor room.

Harbor Mist Grey is seen as a favorite by Pantone for Spring 2018 and it is also being seen as trending for outdoor spaces.  The blue and grey color combination in general has been trending for the past year in fabrics and finishes; so why not another season?  This soft “misty” grey offers a restful yet elegant tone for any poolside retreat or mountainside terrace.  In combination with a natural wood casting, this soothing grey coloration is found in the new Weather Wood finish from Castelle.  This grey creates a perfect backdrop for pops of color delivered by decorative accessories to durable pillows.

Just as with the grey, another comfort neutral Pantone is recognizing for 2018 is a Warm Sand. Not as overwhelming as a taupe, this fresh light tan is a recognizable trend in outdoor spaces.  Perfectly blending with all that is natural, the sandy nuances of this color encourage the addition of any favorite patterns or textures to create interest and excitement.

Pantone rounds out its Classic color trends with what they call Coconut Milk White. Although a brighter white has been trending in outdoor for the past two seasons, this introduction of a softer white is in keeping with a rich neutral seen in many farm-house inspired design stories.  Why not carry this clean and coordination-ready color into the outdoors?  Castelle has with the introduction for 2018 of the Weathered Ivory finish. The off-white allows for harmonious style in the out of doors when paired with accessories to accent rugs, fabrics to flowering gardens!
